Welcome to the official website of Emma Reid!
3 January 2023
Happy New Year! I really look forward to playing together with Erik Ronström again,
this time at Don Gillamstämman in Bredäng, Stockholm. The rest of the spring I will mostly be
performing locally, which I love. Both concerts and playing for dancing, and several new collaborations with
local musicians and performance storytellers.
I will also be returning to my home area of Northumberland, to be a guest tutor with the
National Youth Folk Ensemble. It's always a complete joy to work with such enthusiastic young musicians!
1 October 2022
The new group Grovt och grant (Rough and shiny), are performing in Bollnäs and Stockholm!
A string quartet consisting of myself, Sven Ahlbäck, Mikael Marin and Svante Söderqvist. Check the dates page
for concert details.
5 May 2022
Album launch coming up! The project together with guitarist Erik Ronström and Gotland's wind quintet
has lead to a recording at the wonderful Sandkvie studio in Visby, Gotland. The album
Idel öra
will be launched at Tonsalen in Huddinge, with both a concert and playing for dancing.
1 March 2022
On 11th March I will celebrate my 40th birthday with a ceilidh outside Järna! Everyone welcome -
details here. Music from Järna Ceilidh Band.
Nov 2021
I'm about to head into the recording studio together with superb guitarist Erik Ronström.
Really looking forward to it! Keep a lookout for our debut album in spring 2022.
Feb 2021
I am incredibly excited to be starting my new part-time position as fiddle teacher at the
Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where I myself studied 20 years ago! My hero, collaborator and former teacher,
Ellika Frisell, is retiring, and I feel deeply honoured to be her successor.
8 June 2020
Finally – our first concert in several months! Tonight we are playing a livestreamed concert from Tonfabriken
in Järna, Sweden. Tune in to our facebook page
from 6pm British time, or listen afterwards.
Thank you to ABF Södertälje Nykvarn for giving us this opportunity.
I will also be performing a garden concert together with long time colleague Roger Tallroth (Väsan), at Brogärde,
Järna, on 14th June.
20 March 2020
Hello out there in your cottages, I miss you! Now that all concerts have been
cancelled/postponed I will shift my focus to rehearsing, teaching,
and gardening. I will update the calendar as soon as I have more
information. Look after yourselves and keep listening to / playing music in your homes.
Maybe it’s time to update your CD shelves (you know that musicians don’t get rich from you
listening to Spotify?)?! A CD purchase is a simple way to directly support freelance
musicians – one of the groups hit hard by the Corona crisis.
11 December 2019
Daniel & Emma Reid
have thoroughly enjoyed performing our storytelling concert, Världen ljuder,
around Sweden this autumn. It’s a joy to be able to bring live music and storytelling
direct to schools – it’s noticeable that it’s a new experience for many of the kids.
Now we look forward to our final concert of the year – Christmas songs and tunes
together with the Stockholm choir Kuriosakören. We wish you all a Merry Christmas!
9 October 2019
Long time without news, which ironically is a sign of being particularly busy!
In March this year I started working part time as an organic vegetable grower,
which means that my time
for updating websites as decreased to almost zero (something I am actually rather pleased about).
If you're curious about my gardening you can visit
www.brogarde.se.
Meanwhile, here is some music news:
2019 has been a quiet year for Methera so far, in part due to our beloved
fiddle player John
deciding to step out of the quartet. We thank him for 14 years of incredibly
rewarding music-making
and wish him all the best on his continued musical path.
In Nov and Dec 2019 Methera will be joined by guest fiddle player Sam Sweeney for 6
gigs in Dorset,
Gloucestershire and Lancashire. We're really excited about unravelling a new flavour of Methera,
and hope you are able to join us at one of our gigs. Check the
methera website for gig details
and updates.
11 September 2018
I am so happy that Methera are soon coming to Sweden again!
We will tour with our storytelling show
Strange Lovers together with Mats Rehnman,
and also lead a workshop, play for dancing and give a 'work in progress' concert as a quartet.
Now you can enroll yourself to Solfolket 2018/19 - a folk music course for all ages.

The third album from Daniel & Emma Reid arrived
at our doorstep on my birthday - quite a birthday present!

pieces, both instrumental and vocal. The official release date is 1 June 2018, but you can order your
pre-release copy NOW from the albums page!
30 Nov 2017
Järna Ceilidh Band has come into existence!
Myself, Jennikel Andersson (fiddle) and Duncan Strouts (guitar)
have had a few gigs playing for ceilidhs in the Stockholm area. What a hoot - we never thought this
chance would crop up in Sweden! There's a fantastic group of people organising regular
ceilidhs in Stockholm, and we're so glad they found us. Check out
Ceilidh Stockholm on facebook.
Daniel & Emma Reid have decided to repeat our
caravan tour in the summer of 2018, to coincide with the launch of our third album. We will start
on 1 June in our home town Järna, then to Ransäterstämman and Ljungby Storytelling Festival,
then on to the UK, before heading back via gigs in Germany, culminating at Korrö Folkmusikfestivalen
at the end of July. We are currently in the process of recording our album. Exciting, challenging and
time-consuming!
17 Aug 2017
Daniel & Emma Reid
recently returned home after 3 months on the road, including our 6 week UK crazy caravan tour.
Thanks to all who helped us along the way – it was such an enriching trip, both as musicians
and as a family.
We enjoyed it so much we will be returning in 2018 to coincide with the release of our third album!
In September I will have the pleaseure of playing Lena Willemark's beautiful composition Blåferdi again,
together with Lena,
Mia Marin, Sandra Marteleur, Leo Svensson Sander and Tina Quartey.
Welcome to concerts in Stockholm, Linköping, Ytterjärna and Uppsala.

5 April 2017
On 31st March Daniel & Emma Reid were soloists
backed by Eskisehir’s Symphony Orchestra! We played excerpts from Kalle Ankarblom’s brilliant piece
Symphonic Stomp of Sweden, as well as some duos, to mark the opening of an exhibition produced by the
Swedish Institute. We’re blown away by the experience of playing with a symphony orchestra!
Thank you to Suzi Ersahin of the Swedish Institute, the brilliant and openminded conductor
Ender Sakpinar, Eski?ehir Büyük?ehir Belediyesi Senfoni Orkestras?, the town mayor Y?lmaz Büyüker?en
and AccessAbility Exhibition for a fantastic and inspirational collaboration.
We were received with such enthusiasm, four encores and a handmade sculpture by the town mayor!
11 Jan 2017
Happy New Year! I am starting off with a quiet period of rest and rehearsals,
which I'm really looking forward to. During the year I will be touring mostly with Methera, Daniel & Emma,
and a new Sweden-based string quartet called Livsverket. You can see/hear us in action on
YouTube.
But for now, back to the thawing snow and preparations for
SOLFOLKET this weekend.
23 Oct 2016
Methera is celebrating our 10th Anniversary! Our third album Vortex will be launched on 4th Nov,
and on the 18th we embark on a national tour starting in Embleton, Alnwick,
and ending up in our second home, Ruskin Mill, Stroud. We have already received some rave reveiws for the
album: check the Methera
website to read more and order the album. Hope to see you on the road!
27 May 2016
Autumn 2016 will be the premier for SOLFOLKET - a folk music course in my home town Järna, in Sweden.
A course for ALL ages spread over 5 weekends in the school year. Course leaders are
Daniel & Emma Reid, Arvid Rask and Kersti Ståbi.
More info and enrollment via
Bilda's wibsite,
or follow SOLFOLKET on Facebook.
This summer I will be visiting two lovely festivals in the UK:
Swedish storyteller Mats Rehnman and I will be premiering a new show at Beyond the Border in Wales, and
Rob Harbron & Emma Reid will be performing at Folk East in August.
10 April 2016
Time to delve into Methera-land for the recording of our third album. The studio will be a converted
barn in Norfolk, with beautiful beams and a gorgeous acoustic.
Technician Rob Harbron knows Methera's music better than anyone else. I foresee days filled with music,
concentration, good food and muddy walks. The album will be released in November,
in conjunction with our 10th Anniversary Album Launch Tour.
Lena Willemark's album Blåferdi is now released on the record label Brus & knaster.
Read more and buy the album here. We had four magical gigs in March, including a concert
in Stockholm on my birthday - a lovely way to celebrate.
The album FLOCK & FLY with Rob Harbron & Emma Reid has received great reviews!
Rob and I were on tour last week, and we will be playing in England and Norway this summer.
7 October 2015
I'm on my way home from a lovely Methera rehearsal in Yorkshire. We have been playing non-stop for
two days, creating lots of
new repertoire for our tour in November and planning our third album which will be released in
2016 - our 10th year as a touring act!
Next week I will be recording with the incredible Swedish singer Lena Willemark
- I'm really excited! She has composed
a gorgeous piece, Blåferdi, to be performed by herself, string quartet and percussion.
Watch this space for details about the album launch in spring 2016.
And, talking of albums, the second album by Rob Harbron and myself, FLOCK & FLY, has its official UK
release on 1st November. We will be touring in November and December in both Sweden and the UK.
2 June 2015
Now, at last, summer is within sight!
The time of year when crowds of folk music followers become nomads on their journey between the various gatherings and festivals.
My journey will take me to Ransäterstämman,
where I have concerts with Bridget Marsden and Daniel & Emma,
Bingsjöstämman,
where Bridget Marsden with guests has a concert in the chapel, and Bodastämman,
where I am playing for a dance course with Anna Öberg and Anton Schneider.
Other highlights this summer will be guesting the Swedish Suzuki Summer School for the second time, and
playing with the fantastic Ian Carr at Stockholm Folk Festival.
Also some lovely and slightly more peaceful summer concerts with Daniel & Emma around Sweden.
So, see you amongst the folk music throng!
Have a lovely summer.
18 March 2015
Soon Rob Harbron will be coming to Sweden again for our ALBUM LAUNCH TOUR! We recorded our second album at
Solviksskolan outside Järna Autumn 2013 (before the arrival of my second baby), and now it is finally time for its release.
The album will be released in the UK later this year.
13 November 2014
8 days till the release of our new album, I'm really excited! This autumn we will have release concerts in Sweden,
and in 2015 we will bring the new album to the UK. You can purchase it from the
albums page,
in good time before Christmas..!
3 September 2014
Autumn 2010 Daniel & Emma released their debut album ”Innerligheten”, and now, autumn 2014,
it is time for its successor ”Nära & Kära”. An album with new and exciting collaborations with the Danish duo Hal & Nikolaj,
the mind-blowing guitarist Ian Carr and Daniel Rudholm on spoken word.
Check out our
animated music video to the track ”Why Mankind Why?” from our forthcoming album.
Mattias Gordon and his crew have done a fantastic job.
Spoken Word: Daniel Rudholm
Poem: Chistopher Ndubuisi
Daniel & Emma have the honour of being Artists in Residence at Lunnevads Folkhögskola 2014/2015.
We think it’s great fun - and very important - to spread folk music to youngsters.
18 February 2014
I am about to go on maternity leave, which I am really looking forward to. So 2014 will be a peaceful year
in terms of gigs (but not otherwise!).
Strange Lovers will make some appearances in the UK in July,
and Daniel & Emma will release their second
duo album in the autumn. Daniel is in the process of mixing our recordings at the moment - exciting! I wish you all a happy 2014,
and look forward to seeing you when I am out of my baby bubble.
18 October 2013
Hello out there! Finally, finally, finally, I have managed to update my website again after about
6 months without a functioning admin program.
It's been very frustrating!
Anyway, summer has passed and it's already time for the next leg of the journey for
Strange Lovers: Methera & Mats Rehnman. We had a really lovely premier at Fiddles on Fire at The Sage Gateshead in May,
and since then Mats and I have been working on a new website for Strange Lovers, and sewing together our video footage
from the premier together with the brilliant
Amber Film and Photography Collective.
Have a look around www.strangelovers.org to see what we've been up to.
On Thurs 24th Oct we will be previewing some new stories at Shaggydog Storytellers in Hebden Bridge.
Next year I will be on maternity leave again, but before then I will be recording three new albums, with
Daniel & Emma Reid, Robert Harbron & Emma Reid and Nybyggnan. It'll be lovely to come back to work again with some CDs to launch!
27 March 2013
It's a looong winter this year. Cold, snowy, a sore throat and my computer has crashed! So now things can only get better! And they will, too, because soon I am setting off to England to start an exciting collaboration between Methera and Swedish storyteller Mats Rehnman. We just found out that we have received funding from the Swedish arts body Konstnärsnamnden, so we are extremely grateful and looking forward to getting to work in April.
Daniel and I have had several gigs this spring, including a couple od days with students of folk music in Lunnevad and Bollnäs, as well as a workshop in our home town with the local spelmanslag. We will be playing in the UK in April, and we will also be doing a couple of double bill concerts in Sweden in May together with the fantastic Danish duo Hal & Nikolaj.
7 November 2012
October welcomed the premier of Nybyggnan: a piece comissioned for string quartet and solo saxophone by Adrian Jones.
We received financial support from Konstnärsnämnden for the composition and rehearsal process, and
gave three concerts - at Kristofferuskyrkan in Järna, Humlebackens kulturhus in Krylbo, and at Eric Ericsonhallen in Stockholm. The response from the audience was fantastic!
Many described the piece as contemporary art music with folk music roots. We hope to perform it again in 2013.
The autumn is nearing its end, and my home has been decorated with candles and drying apple rings. I have a couple of really fun projects before the end of the year.
Next week I head to Helsinki to perform with May Monday (Karen Tweed, Tima Alakotila, Roger Tallroth and myself).
It's not often that we get the chance to meet up,
but when we do it's really special! I also have a couple of gigs together with my favourite story teller, Mats Rehnman. Have a look at the gigs page!
And see you in the candle-light...
28 September 2012
Methera had a fantastic premier tour in Sweden in September.
Three lovely gigs: one in a huge converted barn, one in a converted stable and one in a converted water mill!
Apart from public concerts we had two full days of workshops and participatory concerts at a couple of Steiner schools in my home town, Järna. And we ran a public
workshop in English folk music with 10 keen participants from age 16 to 76! In our spare time, John and Miranda took lessons from one of their heros, Mikael Marin from
the super-trio Väsen. And we went to the incredibly friendly folk dance night in Järna - Varma fötter (hot feet!). They served yummy cake and John re-learned to dance
the polska. We also played a short set for dancing, sat in the middle of the floor with swirling feet all around us - both polskas, waltzes, schottisches and English set
dances. Magic!
Methera also had the chance to kick-off a new collaboration
which will continue in 2013: Methera is going to work together with the renowned Swedish story-teller Mats Rehnman to
create new music to his collection of stories about weird and wonderful love. Our working title is "Strange Lovers - New folk music woven with stories of unexpected love".
Our first meeting was incredibly inspiring and we look forward to premiering our collaboration in Appleby in April 2013.
7 August 2012
On 18th August Daniel & Emma are giving a concert at a
spectacular little circular chapel in Saltå By, Järna.
I'm really really excited to be bringing Methera
to Sweden for the first time this September! We will mainly be working in the region of Järna,
but are also giving concerts in Stockholm and Enköping. All very special venues, so well worth coming to!
25 March 2012
I hope you are enjoying the spring, which has just come to Järna in Sweden. I'm still mostly on maternity leave, but in a few weeks time
Daniel & Emma
are performing and teaching at the Scandinavian festival Northern Streams i Edinburgh.
6 September 2011
Eee it's a long time since I posted a message here.. the reason being that I'm a new mum! My lovely baby daughter was born in July, so I'm taking time out this autumn to
be cosy at home with her. It's well worth it!!
I will be doing some odd bits of teaching and touring before the end of the year, with Methera and Daniel & Emma, so keep looking at the dates page.
There are still some places left on the weekend music and dance course in Huddinge 17th-18th September.
24 May 2011
Time flies! Only 5 shows left at Dramaten. Come and see it if you have the chance - the responses we have had from audiences are extremely positive.
In September Mia Marin, Lina Palmgren and I are organising a repeat of the popular Folk Muisc Days in Huddinge - a weekend of workshops in ensemble playing and folk dance.
Guest tutors this time are Esbjörn Hazelius and Nikolaj Busk.
A website is underway - follow this link.
I have up-coming gigs with Daniel & Emma, Roger Tallroth Band and Malin Foxdal Band - check out the dates page and hopefully see you soon!
3 February 2011
2 days left till the premier of the show Under Halonbusken!!! I'm really excited! Book your ticket now!
It's a strong piece of theatre that will make you both laugh and cry...a lot.
13 January 2011
Right now I am busy rehearsing towards the premier of a new theatre production at the Royal Theatre (Dramaten) in Stockholm. I am going to be a
theatre musican all spring, fun! The piece, Under Hallonbusken (Under hte Raspberry Bushes) is written and directed by Maria Blom, loved for her film 'Masjävlar'.
The music is composed by Anders Nygårds, a fantastic fiddler from Dalarna. Come and see it, it's going to be great!!!
26 October 2010
You can now order Methera's new album 'In Concert' and Daniel & Emma's debut album 'Innerligheten' from the album page. They will be posted on the release date.
16 September 2010
An exciting autumn is ahead with two album releases! In November
Methera will be releasing their second album "In Concert".
Our first album is also available again now - we had to do a repressing of it (it's not very often that happens in this small genre!).
Daniel & Emma
are releasing their debut album in November.
The music has been recorded at a converted ferry terminal on the island of Mörkö - one of the most beautiful places on the earth.
Now we are busy mixing and working on the cover, so that the album is ready for our fist tour in England in mid-November.
Keep a look-out on the album page and the dates page!
5 July 2010
I have just returned home from TFF - the folk festival in Rudolstadt, Germany. When we arrived there on Saturday it was 36 degrees, almost unbearable!
But the festival atmosphere was great (the atmosphere in the whole country was great after the football victory),
and the town is beautiful with its magestic castle ovelooking the whole valley. I played at the castle stage together with Petter Berndalen,
Ellika Frisell and Sven Ahlbäck. The group had been put together especially for the festival and sent by the Swedish Radio. The audience were fantastic and we just
managed to finish our set before the tension in the skies was released in thunder and pouring rain. Two festival highlights for me were stunning
flamenco dancing with Aire Gitano and the swinging Cajun band Cedric Watson & Bijoux Creole.
Now I am heading out on a tour in Sweden - four gigs together with Olle Linder and Sofie Livebrant, and four summer concerts in churches together with
saxophonist Daniel Carlsson.
15 May 2010
I am about to have a couple of gigs supporting with the legendary Swedish clown Clownen Manne. He has delighted kids of all ages for more than 40 years and had his
own program on Swedish television way before my time..! His shows are full of colour and playfullness and I'm really looking forward to seeing him live.
29 January 2010
What a snowy start to the new year! So far my 2010 has mainly been concerned with skiing and ice-skating outings...
But January is also a good month to glance forwards and ponder which direction the year will take.
This spring I will continue working on a relatively new collaboration with fantastic storyteller Mats Rehnman.
Tandoori Hill will be making exclusive appearances in April,
and Daniel Carlsson and I will be working on a new duo repertoire
for a summer tour of churches in southern Sweden.
The autumn promises a new CD launch and tour by Methera,
a Christmas album together with Lunds Academic Choir, and maybe the return of John McCusker's Under One Sky. There are many ideas in the pipeline,
so stay tuned and I will keep the news and dates pages up to date!
26 November 2009
The dark winter is back, and with it a wonderful season of warming music, dance and storrytelling. In December there will be two more nights of
Vintergatan: a sparkling tale from the north by storyteller Mats Rehnman and myself on fiddle and viola. I am also
playing in this years' production of Folkjul - Christmas music for choir, fiddle, solo voice and organ in folk arrangements by Gunnar Idenstam.
On 28th November from 7pm
there is a folk music party at Tonsalen in Huddinge with sessions, dancing and a bar. Bring instruments,
dancing shoes and your friends, all are welcome!
4 September 2009
Hello! A whole summer has passed and I've been itching to update my website, but have only just got my website program running again - sorry for the delay.
Later in September I will be recording with Swedish singer Malin Foxdal, and in October I will be on tour with
Methera
and
Sofia Karlsson.
Tandoori Hill
will be featured in the next issue of Swedish folk mag 'Lira', which will be out on 17th Sep.
There will soon be exclusive Tandoori Hill T-shirts available from the shop page!
30 May 2009
NEW ALBUM RELEASE! On 15th May Tandoori Hill released
their debut album Brave Shyness at Stallet in Stockholm.
Tandoori Hill's music has been described as "gripping", "emotive", "film music", "uplifting".
The album is now available for purchase from the album page.
3 April 2009
March has been a busy month with a 2-week Sweden tour with Sofia Karlsson, a great dance evening in Stockholm playing with Kalle Almlöf and Roger Tallroth,
a gig in Skåne with malin Foxdal, Petter Berndalen's Masters concert, a birthday, moving house, and the constant alternation between snowfall and an attempt
at the start of spring..! April brings blue skies and crocuses to Stockholm, and soon I'll be basking in the fully-fledged spring in England (fingers crossed!).
Look out for UK Easter gigs with my hero and former teacher Ellika Frisell, and also with Methera. Go to the dates page now!
5 January 2009
Happy New Year! Now that the lakes around Stockholm have frozen to perfect enormous ice-skating rinks, the winter seems saved!
Other highlights for me this winter and spring will be playing together with Kalle Almlöf and Roger Tallroth towards a concert and dance evening at Stallet
in Stockholm, being reunited with Midnight May Monday again - this time in Finland, more playful music-making with Ellika Frisell, and tours with
Methera and
Malin Foxdal Band. Oh, and I almost forgot.. another attempt at the 90km cross-country
ski race in Dalarna in February..! Please visit the dates page for more information about concerts and workshops.
13 November 2008
Ditt Ditt Darium is currently on an Autumn tour in Sweden.
We had two great dance gigs in Gothenburg and Jönköping, and this weekend we're heading north to Hälsingland for workshops and concerts.
Next week I set off for another tour in Britain. This time it's with John McCusker's 'Under One Sky', a new commission for six Scottish
and six English folk musicians. Lots of singing and lots of toones.. We're touring all over England and Scotland - come join the party along the way!
14 July 2008
Methera's album has received a rave review
in the Oxford-based magazine 'FiddleOn'.
This autumn Mia Gustafsson and Emma Reid are launching two new courses in folk music ensemble in Stockholm. A fantastic oportunity to study arrangement,
ensemble playing, instrument technique, style and repertoire with some of the country's best folk musicians. Guest tutors for the autumn term are Roger Tallroth
and Mikael Marin.
Download the flyer (in Swedish) here. The final application date is 1st September.
16 June 2008
Methera's debut album is now available from
the albums page. We had a great tour in May, thanks to lovely venues, lovely audiences and lovely weather!
Methera will be back on the road in October, on a double bill tour with the fantastic trio Kerr Fagan Harbron.
This summer I am staying in Sweden to play at festivals with Ditt Ditt Darium and Malin Foxdal.
I am also getting loads of fresh air and gardening inspiration from working at the Botanical Gardens in Stockholm - well worth a visit!
15 April 2008
Methera
is shortly heading out on a national tour, with gigs in Northumberland and Cumbria in the north to Suffolk and Somerset in the south.
The tour heralds the launch of our long-awaited debut album! We are really excited about going on the road with our new CD and hope
that you will be able to join us somewhere along the way. Gig details can be found on the dates page. If you miss the chance to hear us live, you will be able
to purchase our eponymous album from May 6th at the
Methera website.
6 April 2008
Later in April I will be playing two concerts with singer Malin Foxdal
whose debut solo album has received rave reviews.
I will also be heading to Norway for a week to perform at the Fartein Valen Festival. There I will be teaming up with old friend Chris Stout for a duo concert
of Shetland and Swedish music, and also playing in a string ensemble performing an exciting program of Baroque and newly commissioned pieces.
22 February 2008
My website has been renovated and redesigned...away with the red! This new look is designed by Stockholm-based artist Andy Redman
and programmed by Nicci Novemo. It is presently being tweaked, so if you spot any mistakes, or have comments, please get in touch.
The Midnight May Monday
(Karen Tweed, Timo Alakotila, Roger Tallroth, Emma Reid) album is out now! Available for purchase from the album page.
The Bezzas
are touring England this spring, see the dates page or our MySpace site.
20 December 2007
Ditt Ditt Darium has received great reviews
in the Swedish press for its debut album 'Ifrån främmande land'. Read more at our new website.
Straight after new year I will be heading out on a little tour of
England and Scotland with Karen Tweed and Timo Alakotila who are releasing their second album together:
Midnight May Monday.
This superb new release from Finland's premier pianist / composer and England's queen of the accordion features Roger Tallroth
(Sweden - guitars) and myself, with guest appearances by Ursula
Leveaux (bassoon), John Dipper (fiddle), Neil Yates (flugelhorn),
Gerard Kilbride (fiddle) and Bernard Kilbride (fiddle). A feast of traditional and newly composed material, including new work
by Tweed, Alakotila, Tallroth, Reid, Antti Jarvela, Andy Cutting and
Chris Wood. Music to make your heart sing! The new album will be featured on Wed 2nd Jan 2008 on BBC Radio 3 late Junction
with Verity Sharp.
A very merry yuletide to all friends, fans, and readers of this page! I hope we meet in 2008.
1 November 2007
Autumn 2007 is the season of album releases! Tomorrow Ditt Ditt Darium release their debut album,
Ifrån främmande land, with a
concert at Stallet in Stockholm. We also have a brand new website, www.dittdittdarium.se,
where you can order the CD straight to your letter box!
On Monday Malin Foxdal released her first solo album, on which I am a guest musician.
Her live band performed a beautiful concert at the Music Museum in Stockholm, and the album has already
received rave reviews. For more information go to Malin's homepage.
Another artist with a recent album release is Roger Wilson, who
makes up half of The Bezzas.
His third solo album concists of 10 new songs, featuring guests musicians such as Martin Carthy, Ian
Carr and Martin Green. It's fantastic, buy it from Roger's homepage!
16 September 2007
On Wednesday Björnsdotter • Reid
is heading out on our fourth US tour! We kick of by re-visiting the summer in California and
providing support for Swedish super-group Väsen. After several concerts, workshops, and evenings of dancing we will return to
some of our favourite gigs on the east coast, in Philadelphia and New York.
In October The Bezzas
(Emma Reid and Roger Wilson) will be doing a short tour in Sweden, and Emma o Ellika
will be playing for dancing in Sunne (Värmland) and at Linköpings folkmusikfestival. Check out the dates page for more details.
13 June 2007
I have recently returned from my first visit to Italy where Karen Tweed and I performed our premier duo gig. Great fun, and
delicious food and capuccino.
My tan, though, had to wait till I got to Gower Folk Festival in sunny Wales! A festival I would highly recommend,
it's in the beautiful and fascinating grounds of Gower Heritage Centre, with a duck pond, goats, corracles, a water mill -
what more could you ask for to entertain yourself between festival
acts?! Robert Harbron & Emma Reid
performed there this year, and I was also honoured to guest on one of Roger Wilson's songs.
Emma Reid & Roger Wilson have recently teamed up to become
The Bezzas,
a unique duo that allows Hank Williams to mingle with
erratic Bingsjö polskas... The Bezzas will be performing at Stainsby Festival in July and touring Sweden in October. Check out our
MySpace site and watch this space!
1 April 2007
Methera is involved in
several exciting projects in April, see the dates page for more details. Methera also has a brand new
MySpace site with several sound samples. See you in cyberspace!
3 March 2007
Björnsdotter • Reid

Happy new year! I hope we meet some time this spring... in Glasgow, Nailsworth, Stockholm, or travelling around Sweden with the magical
story character Nils Holgersson. I will be touring with the Swedish National Theatre in February and March, playing music for a two-person
production of Selma Lagerlöf's masterpiece. Aside from the theatre, the spring also promises musical work with Roger
Wilson, John McCusker, Karen Tweed and Ellika Frisell. Keep a look out and fare well...

NEW CD! Rough and Shiny
is the much anticipated album by innovative young fiddlers Alicia Björnsdotter and Emma Reid. Their
debut album presents traditional and contemporary fiddle music
from Sweden and the British Isles. Elegant polskas are flavoured with blue notes and raw counter-melodies, and the arrangements for two
fiddles give a Swedish touch to compositions by Chris Wood and Robert Harbron.
On Tues 3 Oct
Ditt Ditt Darium
is performing at the opening of parliament in Stockholm! Live on Swedish television,
SVT2 and
SVT24 at 1.40pm.

Just in time to wish you all a happy New Year! 2006 began with a few wonderful and weird (in that order) days at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
A BIG festival with a BIG vibe! And in the company of BIG people for one intense day of rehearsals... Karen Tweed, Timo
Alakotila, Roger Wilson, Elvie Miller, John Dipper, Niall Keegan, Sandra Joyce and Ursula Leveaux. One-off gigs are definately worth it,
and so are a couple of gritty fiddle tunes in the bar before catching a flight home at 6am!
Methera is about to embark on
their debut England tour. We're only going to the cosiest, friendliest,
most intimate venues - a crucial element in our ambition for the music we create to live in the moment. Check out the diary for Feb!
If you've read my previous news you will have noticed my enthusiasm for House Concerts.
The last few months have been characterised by sleepless nights conjuring up dreams of setting up an active scene for House Concerts,
both in Sweden and England. Well luckily
enthusiasm and dreams sow seeds, and 2006 looks to be a year full of House Concerts, yipee!
Hemma hos Izzy is a new series of
acoustic evenings at Folklore Centrum in Stockholm, run by Izzy Young and myself. We kicked off on the 19th Jan with a café-style
setting - Izzy's regular visitors hardly recognised the place! Thanks
loads to my dear friends in Ditt Ditt Darium
who stepped in at the last minute and made it a night to remember.
Thanks also to all those who have expressed their support for a new, informal stage in Stockholm.
And...If you're passing through Stockholm on a Thursday night, make a stop at Mariatorget to meet an artist as if in your own living room!
Rob Harbron and I are giving a series of
house concerts in Britain in May.

The latest edition of the Welsh folk magazine
Taplas (no. 132, Oct/Nov 2005) includes a feature article entitled
Swedish Passion: Keith Hudson looks at the life of fiddler Emma Reid.
In the same magazine, Snake Bow
received a very positive review.

Back in Stockholm in time to greet the autumn colours and the
crisp air! Ditt Ditt Darium
has been three weeks on the road on their premier tour of the US. A great experience; we gave
concerts and workshops to a wide range of audiences at an equally wide range of venues: open-air, folk clubs, theatres, churches, concert halls, radio
studios and an old cinema. There often seemed to be new American-Swedish crowds not previously
acquainted with traditional music, but who really appreciated a glimpse of their cultural history. We began
and ended in Philadelphia, and drove as far west as Madison, Wisconsin, and as far north as Brattleboro, Vermont. On the map
these distances look innocent; in the car they are immense! Luckily
we stopped off for gigs en route, thanks to the amazing work and skill of Alicia, our very own
US tour manager (and our beloved fiddler, viola player and foot-percussionist).
Check out the latest Snake Bow
reviews, and the review of Fiddles
on Fire at Queen Elizabeth Hall that appeared in The Strad.
This autumn I will be focusing on recording work and expanding my repertoire of English dance tunes.
I also hope to find time for a late summer holiday in Northumberland...
30 June 2005
Två has returned from a
three-week tour of Minnesota and the northeast coast of America.
Plain fiddle duos aren't nearly as common or easily digested in the US as in Sweden, but I think we
found some new enthusiasts (after a thorough discussion we also added a couple of songs to our repertoire!). We had a couple of
house concerts - my new favourite concert setting. These are intimate concerts in someone's sitting room - the perfect
atmosphere for sharing and combining music with coffee and socialising - what more could you desire of an evening?!
En route we met many people proud to have four Swedish grandparents
(and we both only have two!), swam in many lakes and rivers to escape from the humid heat, had many a good meal and song with our hosts, and heard some great music.
Alicia and I are already looking forward to returning in September with the whole of
Ditt Ditt Darium.
Next week I will be rehearsing with free-bass accordionist Tuulikki Bartosik towards a recording of Orsa music in the autumn. The CD
will be released in 2006 on Sibelius Academy's label - watch this space!
22 May 2005
Back in Stockholm after the incredibly inspiring Folkworks Fiddles on Fire UK tour. Two fantastic weeks in the company of legendary fiddlers;
the American Fiddlers 4, Shetland fiddler Catriona Macdonald (one of my first fiddle teachers!), Cathal Hayden of Four Men and a
Dog, and Hungarian virtuoso Beáta Salamon.
Read a review of the concert in Penrith and the last gig in Basingstoke.
Watch a video clip from the Basingstoke gig of Fiddlers 4 and myself.
My debut solo album Snake Bow
is now released! Thanks to all those who came to
The Sage Gateshead and Stallet to celebrate with me. Read more and find out how you can purchase Snake Bow / Ormstråk
Two are about to head off to the
USA for a three week tour. Check out the diary dates – more to be added soon!
